Allergy Drops

Dropper Bottle

WELCOMEto the Allergy Testing & Treatment Center. As an allergy sufferer you have a choice in your allergy treatment. A choice, beyond medications, which offers you the only disease modifying treatment for your allergies (immunotherapy). Specifically sublingual immunotherapy or, the more easily said, allergy drops.

While medications provide relief of the symptoms of allergic disease, immunotherapy actually modifies the disease state and changes the way your body reacts to antigens (allergy causing substances).

We’re all familiar with immunotherapy in the form of allergy shots…a series of injections with gradually increasing doses that, over time, can build the body’s tolerance to an antigen thus reducing symptoms and medication needs. Allergy drop treatment follows this same pattern and uses the same FDA approved antigens. The difference is that the drops are placed under the tongue and affect the immune system of the mouth.

So why not just stick with shots? Shots are effective and drops aren’t meant to replace them, however there are limits to which patients can be treated with shots. The benefit of allergy drops is that antigens are delivered to cells through a much friendlier route, the mouth (oral mucosa). This allows for a broadening of the patients who can benefit from immunotherapy…children, asthmatics, highly reactive patients. These are patients who can benefit the most from a change in their disease and often are not candidates for allergy shots. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to treat your child at home for allergies?
